26 Jul PRINCE Spreecast Recap; Questlove, A Panel, & “The Beautiful Ones”

In the latest PRINCE spreecast, we thought we had an episode of “Seinfeld” on our hands, a show about nothing. But in little to no time, that changed!

In a discussion I had with Prince earlier this month at Paisley Park studios, Prince talked about Touré’s book on him and said that he took one conversation he had with him (Back in 1998) and turned it into a book. “Touré didn’t like me the time we talked.”

Prince said Questlove should write a book about me. He appreciated music and he would do it right. He said should. Not want. Should. He didn’t say Questlove needs to write a book about him and DrFunkenberry should help. My name was NOT brought up at all. Questlove should write a book. Period. Questlove. Not DFunkenberry. So all those trolls on message boards, need to chill the heck out. I should write a book now just to shut you all up. Ahh well. This is what it sounds like “When The Fans Cry”…and piss…and moan. Oh, and talk a lot of shhh. You don’t know me. Keep talking. On the fanpage, on message boards, or like the guy on Twitter below. Ahh. A cunt. Pulling out the classics.

Aside from the book, Prince advised that I should talk with Questlove. He felt that we could learn a lot from each other. What is Questlove going to learn from me? The man is a music encyclopedia and in ways I am as well, but not to the level of Questlove. If you’re reading this Prince, we are going to talk. #Hustle

Now back to Touré. He is promoting his book at the Grammy Museum on August 14th with a panel that consists of Susannah Melvoin (Wendy’s sister and was with Prince until 1986 in some capacity) Alan Leeds (Prince’s former manager until 1993), Touré himself (Who had a one time conversation with Prince in 1998 and that is what the book is based around), and L.A. Reid. Not sure why Reid is on the panel of discussing why Prince is an icon but I’m sure no longer being a judge on X-Factor has freed up a lot of time for him.

Now, some people have asked me to be on this panel, mostly fans, only because the last person to have any contact with Prince in close capacity was Touré back in 1998, 15 years ago. Since it is a book only covering mostly 81-86, I don’t think it is necessary. What some fear is that on the East Coast version of the panel a few months back, it was somewhat of a Prince bash-fest. I will be attending. I am NOT on the panel. I have not been asked. I am interested in what Alan Leeds has to say. Prince has not had a manager like Alan Leeds since Alan Leeds. That being said, Alan had a record label behind him unlike the people in Prince’s camp now and it makes things harder in case of structure.

Lastly, while talking about the panel, I brought up Susannah Melvoin and said that Prince wrote songs such as The Beautiful Ones” about her. The following day, I had this sent to me by someone:

“”the beautiful ones” is soooo not about wendy’s sister. sheesh! in fact NO song is. we all wish people would stop saying this. They should listen closely 2 the wordz.”

This is the second time I have been told this. Years of years of being told otherwise, I will just have to unlearn that is not about Wendy’s sister.
