27 Jun W.h.at??? Will.I.Am Suing Pharrell Over Phrase “I Am”
Will.I.Am is not messing around with what he feels is his brand, even if it is a friend. Will is suing Pharrell over the words “I Am” and claiming the copyright is owned by him.
Rolling Stone uncovered the court documents. For the full article, click here.
Pharrell has a brand called “i am OTHER” and Will.I.Am does not want his trademark of the the phrase and feels Pharrell’s logo is just too similar to his.
Pharrell is not backing down though, responding to Rolling Stone regarding the lawsuit;
“I am disappointed that Will, a fellow artist, would file a case against me. I am someone who likes to talk things out and, in fact, I attempted to do just that on many occasions.
”I am surprised in how this is being handled and I am confident that Will’s trademark claims will ultimately be found to be as meritless and ridiculous as I do.“
Will.I.Am tweeted several statements saying he is not suing Pharrell but trying to protect others that would be affected if the phrase was confused with Pharrell’s clothing line. Get all that? Me neither!-DocFB
Diagnosis: Could have things just have been squashed with a phone call with Pharrell and Will? It seems Will is more upset that Pharrell went public with the info of a lawsuit. We are sure it will work out but it makes you question actual copyright and trademark violations being taken seriously in situations like this….

I Am Weasel anyone? 🙂
