16 Feb Artist Spotlight: Nikka Costa Takes Over California

Nikka Costa invaded California last week for 2 shows in Southern California and 2 shows in Northern California and the funk was hot, sweaty, and nasty.

The San Francisco shows were straight fire as you would expect.  The shows in San Juan Capistrano and Redondo Beach brought out some real music lovers with Nikka doing about a 95 minute set alone in Redondo Beach, playing a plethora of her back catalog sans “Push & Pull” and I’m not sure if it was played at her other shows.

Make sure not to be sitting down in Nikka’s eye view or she will be calling you out to shake it all night, just like the gentleman that Nikka coined “Knit Cap” above. He was sitting down with his crew but before long, Nikka had him surrendering his cell phone and other things in his pocket to shake with Nikka.

Everyone around me was sweating up a storm. I’m in my suit and just grooving, cause you know I’m too cool to sweat.

We are told that these shows were very random and Nikka just wanted to get out there and perform. I mean, what kind of person would I be if I did not go out there and appreciate real music n funk.

I’ve seen Nikka countless times and this show had me needing a drink and a couple of dance partners. The music was hot, Nikka was hot, and the night was just straight rock n funk.
