22 Aug Soul Legend Nick Ashford Of Ashford & Simpson Fame Dead At 69
Soul legend Nick Ashford, who wrote the songs “Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, has died. He was 69 years old. Nick had been suffering from throat cancer for a while.
Ashford teamed with his wife, Valerie Simpson, to become the duo Ashford & Simpson and recorded “Solid” a huge soul hit back in the 80’s. They formed in the 60s’ but did not have break out success until the late 70’s. Nick & Valerie also wrote “Let’s Get Stoned” for Ray Charles back in the 1960’s and Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman” a soul anthem, back in the 70’s as well.
Nick stood tall in life and when he was fighting throat cancer. His career in soul music and as a songwriter will always be “Solid” even in death.
Our condolences go to Valerie Simpson and Ashford’s family at this time.-Dr.FB
