Prince just came out against covers saying “they are lazy” and Beyonce tries to prove him right.  I think Prince was talking about studio covers and not exactly live, because he still does covers live.

Prince’s version of “The Beautiful Ones” had more energy and was more believable than Beyonce’s version at Glastonbury.

    I honestly feel that Beyonce did this song justice! Being that the song is written in a way where passion in the vocals is to be evoked, so to say Beyonce did not do her job and amazing at that, is way far from the truth! Becuase youtude Prince’s reaction to Beyonce in general. The man is in love with her as An “ARTIST” not a mimic! Ah la Gaga, Madonna, Brittany been there done that!

    THIS IS AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZIIIIIINNNGGG!!!!!!! HOW COULD ANYONE NOT LIKE IT??
    I DIDN’T USED TO BE A BIG BEYONCE FAN UNTIL I SAW HER GLASTONBURY PERFORMANCE. THIS SONG IN PARTICULAR TOTALLY BLEW ME AWAY.
    PLUS ALL OF HER BAND ARE REAL WOMEN – REAL VOCALISTS AND REAL MUSICIANS, MAKING REAL MUSIC.

    Noise pollution. I can’t even stomach these well known female artists anymore… Not after seeing Shelby J, Elisa, and Liv at the 21 nite stand shows I attended. I hope Prince and NPG cause another Purple Rainstorm here in L.A. MISTY BLUE is my JOINT!! Much dappz to Shelby J for reppn dat kut. The Yonce… Rihanna…. and Keysha Cole need to recognize REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS…. and REAL Vocalist. Soowoop.

    only a handfull @ most can cover a Prince song and make it their own. this one sucks but not as bad the the version mariah did a few years back. and one can’t deny that MC and Beyonce can sing — just not this song.

    i read somewhere that he does not have issues when the ladies cover his stuff….its the guy that seems to set him off…..genuwine (sp?) comes to mind — when he covered When Doves Cry. i read that the two came face to face @ an awards show and Prince had a few words for him. The cover really did suck.

    @ jayney – listen to the original. you can hear and feel the difference.

    Generally I like Beyonce….this was not good!! Not good at all!! But, hey that’s just my opinion. Some songs you just can’t do is all I’m saying.

    All I see in the still shot of that youtube video is Beyonce on her knees flinging that “hair” around. I don’t even need to see the video. No thanks.

    Generally I don’t like Prince covers– I can maybe think of a few I liked, and one I didn’t even know was a Prince song because I hadn’t heard the original. This…is just…ick. Sometimes, somethings are best left alone. This is one of them.
