Prince’s Facial Expressions during the tribute was priceless……… Prince you handled a very flattering, yet uncomfortable situation with flying colors!

    God Bless from Chicago

This was an awesome tribute.. Thanks for the post.. Jehova truly has blessed individuals with great talents.. We see it EVERYday though (we just dont realize it).. One day, hopefully, everyone else will realize it and Hope its not too late.. And maybe that one day we can live in harmony with one another all over the world and see what Chocolatsis said where we can see Prince, Mozart, and Jimi all on one state (with a special guest appearance from Michael =c)

Until then.. Matthew 24:14 says it best.. I love everyone out there! Peace! =c)

Great show, great acceptance speech. I’m just glad Prince was here to see the great song tributes to him and see how much he’s loved and appreciated. It was great. He was wispy!!! This 80’s chick is very proud of Prince!!! 🙂

Yes my whole family enjoyed this tribute….I was waiting 4 him 2 get up on that stage and do something…oh the anticipation but it was cool…
When his talked about his “mistakes” I took it as u dont have 2 bare all in ur videos and be explicit in ur music. Regardless Prince did what he did back in the day, he pushed the envelope of the table already so lets do something different now.
Another note it was good 2 c a young artist, like Drake, say “now thats the man right there”
    LOVE IT!!!!!

Thanx so much Doc. I got to wake up 2 this!!:) cos I don’t have BET.
Yes please stop with the over analyzing, it was amazing!! loved Esparanza Spalding, as well all of em really it was soooo nice 2 see him apprieciated that way. No he doesn’t regret ALL of his back catalog my goodness we all made mistakes and you have 2 be grown I guess 2 admit that. Larry is just a man he aint Jehovah, lots of people led Prince to the Truth and the true God. It WAS the true God himself that brought my brother out of the darkness of bebased lyrics and ideas that have never been okay with our maker. Prince is a very independent thinker NOBODY tells him what to do or think except Jah. Believe me ppl I was there at 14 being just as into all that nastiness as the rest of ya, and then from 17 on got to be around them, all of em Vanity, Jesse, Mazarati, off shoot bands… there were sooo many, the 80s were a real fun time In the Minniapple.

BUT from 1 who came from a very debased background as well B4 I even heard Ps music, w/out the fame n fortune and through out it all; Jah was there callin me2. Its SO wonderful 2 watch the performances and listen 2 the music now, just as funky as can be!! but funner cos now all ages can enjoy. He knows it made him what he is now and it shaped a whole generation, he proly just wishes yall would C beyond it the way we do. ITS SO awesome!! One day Jimi will be on stage with him as well as Mozart. THE real life…”and if the truth sounds like a memory” like wisper in ur ear, get up comeon lets do somethin don’t u wanna know “The Word” no? well thats ur free will baby, me? I’m just 1 of those crazy jehovahs:) thats what my dad used to call me:)

I totally agree with what Maddladd said. Tre Songz, don’t try to take away from the purple moment by holding your own tribute. Bad idea. Who the hell is Tre Songz anyway?
And the only past public mistakes Prince made in the past was not touring the States for Sign O the Times in “87 and force feeding Larry Graham and his beliefs on his longtime fans since ’97.

That was a great speech Prince gave. The tribute was alright but I think it could have been better. I might be in the minority but I wouldn’t be surprised if the “mistakes” that Prince spoke of weren’t so much about his past music so much as mistakes he’s made with is career thorughout the years because, truth be told, he’s made some. I just hope that he doesn’t have any regrets in knowing what those mistakes were for him. Whatever the case, it’s not that serious and I’m glad that he’s still in the game 32 years later to still kick our asses in some shape and form. God bless Prince 4ever and eva!!!!

Underwhelming tribute, but honestly, who can cover Prince, especially the more difficult songs (i.e., Let’s Go Crazy). Still, I know the ladies did their very best and no one can deny the love. Loved that he wore a shirt emblazoned with himself, adored that when he asked the audience to sit back down – they obeyed without a murmur (the man’s got some kinda serious crowd control, no?), and most especially that he put down the award to concentrate on what he wanted to say.

What makes me sad is that he seemed to reference his younger, wilder days as a mistake. Not to be overly cliche, but he saved/helped/guided/inspired an entire generation – especially those coming of age in the 80s. That can’t be a bad thing. I do believe in people showing shame for past errors, but, at least in the public eye, I don’t think Prince made many.

To paraphrase a great author – you can read aloud the passages They hold out for you to read, but when you do, such light as you have made in history will leave you. Peace.

Thanks for posting this Doc! I wasn’t sure what to expect of this tribute after reading some of the posts on here. I think Prince dug this tribute… nuff said!

BTW – Anyone know who was sitting next to Shelby J? I can’t remember her name.

What a SENSATIONAL tribute!!! I thought all four women did fantastic job. The energy Janelle showed & kick off with was incredible, Esperanza was just down right classy & sexy, Alicia flawless as always & I loved seeing her let go, pregnant & all and Patti – oh Patti, what a fabulous cresendo to a unforgettable tribute dedicated to a unforgettable musician & man.

Please do not over-analyse & appreciate the tribute, his speech & recognition for what it is: 100% Class & Style!

tribute was awesome!! Janelle had so much energy!! Alicia Killed Adore!! Patti kinda oversang Purple Rain, but that’s just Patti. The shoe thang was pretty funny.. the only downer on the entire tribute was when Tre Songs thought he was qualified to try n sing Purple Rain. Tre Songs sounded like ass on that one, and Prince’s expression was priceless.. oh and Prince.. your only real past mistake came around 1997 when u decided it was a good idea to abandon what was working for you and adopt Larry Graham as your “warner brothers” . the guy controls your image, your art, your beliefs and apparently your good sense!

He seem’s relaxed, happy and so grown up. Love it!

It was really nice to see the man just kinda hang back and enjoy the moment. Many artists have not had that chance. 🙁 The selection of ladies was nice.Disappointed a bit that Chaka didn’t do her thang! But Alicia & Patti were most definately the bright spots in the performance!Especially Alicia on the keys and Patti kickin off the heels! Oh lord!2 funny! lmao How can 1 man be so freakin cute and sexy at the same time?!Dangerous I tell ya! lol It’s nice to know that I am not alone in the part of his speech where he mentioned “mistakes” Call them what you will but that they were not! In life we all live & learn and hopefully learn from our mistakes.Like fashion, music, boyfriends, change thru our life so do we as a person. We grow emotionally, spiritually etc.Prince would not be the man he is now today had he not been who he was then! All of those events molded him.Just like “a piece of clay he may have been formless ” at one time. But gradually he shaped himself into the wonderful ,talented human being he is today. Those…”so called mistakes” are part of the timeline to my life. The soundtrack to my life! That which has helped shape me and mold me! I believe that you should live and look back fondly on the events during your life. Not with regret for things you cannot change.I enjoyed seeing him at ease ,smiling and enjoying what was going on.He deserves it! As for the future of music…well…when music from the past (DEBARGE) gets more of a reaction than anything else…WHAT DOES THAT SAY?! Congratulations Prince! xo
