PRINCE’s new song “Rock & Roll Love Affair” debuted on an Iheart Radio station in Chicago this morning.
We were sent the photo above to post with the new song.
Rumor has it a video was shot for the song the same day that he shot “People Pleaser” with Andy Allo at his Paisley Park Studios earlier this month.

Posted at 10:10h, 19 SeptemberNice subtle beat, like that you can concentrate on his singing voice. like the horn arrangements too. more old school sound with funk!

Posted at 06:01h, 19 SeptemberAt last he’s done a pop song! Sooo tired of Prince Brand Rock. For me, I hope this is an indication of the next album. Prince playing what he wants not what his fans keep asking for. You go Prince! And please, for the love of whomever, please, please release it in hardcopy 🙂

Posted at 05:43h, 19 Septembernot up to a his potential for a worldwide premier release. Very weak song filler…Controversy even For You had better fillers…. PRINCE HAS LOST IT on studio recording…He Lives as a Live Peformer.

Posted at 22:44h, 18 SeptemberI admire him searching for a pure soul, but man…you need someone to tell you it’s just not there. The best songs I’ve heard lately are ‘u will b with me’, and ‘when eye lay my hands on u’.

Posted at 21:33h, 18 SeptemberI’m almost always disappointed with his new studio material ever since approx. 2000, but once I’ve heard the live versions I start changing my mind because the songs get so many more dimensions. Sometimes I’m thinking he should just stop making these cheesy studio cuts and just do everything live. No wonder perhaps that his best selling album was largely recorded live as well…

Posted at 11:02h, 18 SeptemberWhat a killer, fun, catchy and funky pop song! The back guitar rhythm is superb mixed in with the synth flavor adds some slick style and tasteful musical flavor. I absolutely LOVE the pop sound and it’s subtle way of making me have that “bob your head and groove” to the song. It sure does feel like the summer song you play on a cool summer evening with your windows rolled down as you drive with the one you love or your best friend. This song just feels good. It make my soul feel good. It’s sweet. It’s another perfect gem from a phenomenal artist….PRINCE!

Posted at 10:37h, 18 SeptemberI love the production of this track. Good instrumentation and is a step up from recent Prince productions, including most of 20Ten. However, when I first heard the title “Rock and Roll Love Affair”, I expected a bit more, shall we say…ROCK? This version sounds like it should be the “Smooth Jazzy Summer” remix rather than the MAIN mix. Where was the guitar solo? That would be the FIRST step I’d take. Also, I would have much rather the song have a Lenny Kravitz “Are You Gonna Go My Way” kind of rock and roll power and immediacy to it complete with Prince turning up his vocal delivery a few notches.
This track has a too laid back approach which won’t touch people’s spirit and most certainly won’t light up the dance floor. It’s not to say Prince doesn’t have it in him for a more explosive “Rock and Roll” type jam. He does. He’s just having trouble putting it to wax lately. Reminds me of the tempo of “Hot Summer”, a song which I liked less due to silly lyrics and mediocre production, instrumentation and arrangement.
I’d give a limb to sit in the studio while Prince records and be a co-producer, given the power to say what I feel and guide the master in making a finished song(s) that will shake the rafters and light a fire under people’s booty-s. I’d be like:
“You’re vocals too laid back, Prince. Project and give me much more like your life depends on it. This is a love affair, right? Act like you’re full of passion.”
“It’s kinda nice, but where’s the energy, Prince? We gotta increase the tempo and punch up the instrumentation more. Give the drums a bit more power. Bring the keyboards and bass up. And, for Jehovah’s sake, please, please, please put a gut wrenching, goose bump making guitar solo in there!”
“Cut. Cut. Cut. No, man. Prince. That performance is too laid back, brother. Do you really think this will light up the airwaves AND the dance floor and fill people’s spirits up with joy, love and empowerment? If you’re looking to make a statement, this version just ain’t gonna cut it. Let’s do this again and this time, give me everything like this “love affair” is life or death to you. Comprende? Okay…Take two…roll tape. Go!”

Posted at 09:49h, 18 Septembernice little song. catchy. prince i hope your not losing your voice. the music is very 80’s. reminds me of prince’s earliest albums which were very keyboard sounding. i hear take me with you in there for some melody. thanks doc for posting. can’t wait for video. hair is interesting. i loved when he wore a natural back in 1978. i’m sorry he stopped wearing it. he is a beautiful man.

Posted at 07:25h, 18 SeptemberOK, so now I’ve listened to it about 5 times, and I love this track.
The mix is incredibly open and fresh, while being very big at the same time.
I’d say it has perfect instrumentation, great chorus and verses, and spectacular vocals… very stripped down and bluesy.
LOVE the guitar parts, synth parts, and drumming. It sounds like Prince on most (if not all) instruments… Definitely sounds like his drumming.
