17 May Review: Nikka Costa Shines At Luckman As She Heads Out On Tour
You know those shows that days later, while you are lying down or doing something, is still on your mind? Nikka Costa at The Luckman Fine Arts Complex was one of those concerts.
Nikka and her band, which included everyone in the house, put on one heck of a funky show from the starting line of “Dance To The Music” a Sly & The Family Stone cover, and did not stop for about 90 minutes.
She wants you standing for the full show and trust me, you do not want to be caught by her sitting down, unless you want to be called out, or brought on stage to show how unfunky you can be.
Performing rare material from her own song collection and also a lot of material from “Pebble To A Pearl” Nikka does not know the word quit. Nikka is one of the great live acts out there. I sometimes feel she is like my little secret that people just do not have the common sense to check out.
The Luckman Fine Arts Center had incredible sound so to be able to check Nikka out there was a great treat. Sometimes with acts that you live, you get a great visual but horrible sound, or vice versa. With Luckman’s you got it all.
Nikka is about to go on the road again and I CANNOT stress enough how you have to check her out. She is going to be hitting up MA, NYC, PA, NJ, DC and MD between now and the end of May.
