Review: Bruno Mars Works “The Middle”

Bruno Mars along with Janelle Monae sold out the Gibson Amphitheatre Sunday and Tuesday along with opening act Mayer Hawthorne.

When I first heard of the show, I couldn’t believe Janelle was opening and was worried Bruno would be over-shadowed, as some early reviews were saying.  I am proud to say, they were wrong.

Bruno did a rousing 90 minute set that opened with a new song and then stuck to material from his last CD “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” along with a cover or 2.

Bruno was very playful with the crowd during recent hits “Lazy Song” and “Grenade” talking about getting his heart broken was the inspiration for the song.  The aforementioned “Lazy Song” was anything but, with a back and forth with a band member and the audience.

He also sang “billionaire” substituting “fricking” instead of using the other “F” word.

Bruno brought the house down with “Nothing On You” and “Just The Way You Are” before coming out for a loud encore.

Bruno went from playing the Temple Bar in L.A. years ago to headlining his own tour.  We can only hope his success continues and we are able to see him again very soon.-Dr.FB
